History At a Glance

2011
Free Lending library launched in Gosavi Vasti in Pune with two volunteers. Around 50 school going children and a few parents are the first  members.
2012
There is  a quick increase in the number of readers as well as number of volunteers. On 23-10-2012 Akshar Sarita Foundation, a Not for Profit Pvt. Ltd. Co. is incorporated. 
2013
The number of members in Gosavi Vasti reaches new heights. Around 350 children are now members of the library.
2014
A new branch of the library is launched at Kusumbai Motichand Mahila Ashram: once again to an encouraging response. More than 100 girls and women become members and start reading a wide range of books.
2015
ASF develops a perfect framework for our activity and comes up with a novel idea of conducting ‘Library Classes’ as part of the school time-table, in PMC run Marathi and English medium schools.
2016
By June 2016 ASF is conducting ‘Library Classes’ in three corporation schools. ASF steadily expands its activity to reach out to a large number of young readers in a few  more schools. 
2017
ASF collaborates with Swa-Roop Wardhini, to conduct Library Class for their students at Bhave School branch. An Advisory Board of distinguished members in various fields, is formed.
2018
A new library is opened at Sant Ramdas School along with one more branch of Swa-Roop Wardhini. Now ASF is conducting 13 Library Classes  every week.
2019
ASF continues expanding the scope of its activity, opening Library Classes in new schools. The number of volunteers  also increases. Reading enthusiasts,  who believe in the ASF cause, help raise funds for the company by reaching out to individual donors.
2020
By the end of the Academic year 2019-2020, ASF is conducting Library Classes in and around Pune. About 800 students are reading books every week.

2021
All the schools start online classes due to the pandemic Covid-19. ASF volunteers create around 300 audio and video recordings of stories and poems to be sent to the children along with their school lessons.
2022
The schools begin in an offline format in June 2022.  ASF expands its activity to many new schools and now runs Library Classes in 31 classes. About 1500 students get an opportunity to read books.
2023
The number of volunteers and classes increased by the end of academic year 2023-24. ASF started conducting 42 Library Classes in different schools from Pune and Mumbai for around 2000 students.
